Media releaseDEC Housing releases new homes in Ballarat for people with disability
Three homes specifically designed around the needs of people with disability, and available for lifetime tenancy, are now available in Ballarat.
DEC Housing, a charitable organisation registered with the NDIS to develop Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), has released two homes in Delacombe and one in Wendouree.
From the street, there’s nothing especially remarkable about the way these houses look. However, each will provide a modern, energy efficient and comfortable home for people who may present with behaviours of concern requiring robust features like toughened glass, strong walls and private ‘breakout’ rooms.
“The completion of these homes means people with disability in the Ballarat region with SDA funding in their NDIS plan now have the opportunity to live in safety and comfort,” said David Moody, DEC’s GM Operations.
“Gone are the days where people need accept living in group homes, or insecure accommodation unfit for anyone. These homes are for just two residents, plus a room for their support workers.
“It’s worth noting too that the dimensions and accessibility features of our ‘Robust’ homes, like these ones, cater to nearly anyone with SDA funding, including people who use a wheelchair.
“So in a way, they’re just ordinary if not high quality homes, for people with disability to lead ordinary lives, just as they’re entitled,” said Mr Moody.
